Concerned about pet overpopulation?
Does mandatory spaying or neutering of all dogs sound like a good idea to you? When mandatory spay - neuter laws are enacted dogs there will be no more puppies from responsible breeders. Pet owners will be forced to spay or neuter their dogs......no more abandoned dogs in shelters. Sounds like a great idea!
No more chihuahuas, yorkies, maltese, beagles, german shepherds, golden retrievers, poodles or any other breed will be born in that area, (this can apply to a city, county or state) But you want a poodle, now you can't find one, or they are so expensive due to regulation you can't afford one. You don't want to buy your next puppy "made in China."
Many of the dogs in shelters were wanted at one time, they were surrendered by their owners.
Dogs are surrendered for many reasons. Many have to do with incompatibility of the dog and it's owners, lack of training and lack of understanding of the dogs needs.
Puppy mills need to be closed, places where dogs are badly treated, kept is small pens, bred over and over again, given little or no veterinarian care, given little or no love and attention.
A responsible breeder would never sell to a pet shop, ban puppy and kitten sales from pet shops.
Carefully research a breed, if it is a mixed breed consider the parents prior to purchasing a puppy. All puppies are cute, not all puppies are suitable for every owner and situation. Take into consideration the size, activity level, temperament, grooming and amount of care of the puppy. Match the puppies needs to the amount of time, space, energy, and money you have to take care of it's needs. Consider an adult dog vs. a puppy
